Over the Moon: The Broadway Lullaby Project and concert, raising awareness for breast cancer charities - review/giveaway

I remember when my kids were babies the beautiful quiet time right before they fell asleep. We would rock in our rocking chair; they would cuddle in my arms; and we would listen to lullabies. Since I can't sing (unless you count off key crooning), the iPod was our musical companion. For me, I wanted the music to be classic, sung well and soothing.

I found a cd that meets my requirements, Over the Moon, The Broadway Lullaby Project. From New York theater veterans, Kate Dawson and Jodi Glucksman, this project was born out of a desire to help those affected by breast cancer. Numerous Broadway stars have generously come together to perform original lullabies with the intent to raise money for breast cancer charities Breast Cancer Research Foundation and Young Survival Coalition.

Forget the typical lullabies that you are know well. These original songs inspire a little one's sleep yet engage the parents. The songs are sung with subtlety and intimacy. From the quiet guitars to the delicate piano notes, it is as if you are in the room with the singer. You feel as the song is personally sung to you and your child.

Dawson believes that this project and the lullabies are "about the love between parents and children, it's an unique was of expressing love." Even for the older audience, this collection of lullabies like a  warm embrace. The tenderness and emotion in each lullaby finds a way to touch listeners of all ages.

On Monday, May 7,  Edie Falco will host a concert at New York City's Stephen Sondheim Theater to celebrate the release of Over the Moon: The Broadway Lullaby Project.
