Back to School Season got sweeter with Sara Lee Snack Cakes - review

Sometimes companies provide my family with products to try. I occasionally share my fair and honest opinions about these products.

In our household, the back to school season has begun. From finding the perfect backpack to collecting lots of school supplies, it is an exciting time to be a kid and a parent. One forgotten aspect of back to school shopping is the kids' lunch. Kids want a fun lunch option while parents want healthy choices. The perfect balance between what kids crave and what parents want is Sara Lee Snack Cakes.

Sara Lee Snack Cakes are pre-portioned cakes that are perfect for lunch boxes, after school snakes or just an anytime treat. Starting in August, there are several options for anyone who loves a perfectly portioned snack cake.

Included in this line are the following:

Devil's Food Creme Cake: Scrumptious Devil's Food Cake topped with a heavenly layer of creme, surrounded by a rich, chocolatey coating.
Golden Fudge Cakes: Moist golden cake, topped with mouth-watering fudged all withing a delicious chocolaty shell.
Chocolate Creme Cupcakes: Divine chocolate cake, filled with sweet creme inced with a delectable chocolate top and a white drizzle.
Golden Creme Cakes: Simply irresistible golden cake, complimented with just the right touch of creme.
Buttery Sunshine Cakes: Light and buttery golden cake baked to perfection
Crumb Cakes: Moist golden cake covered with a sweet crumb topping.
Cheese Topped Crumb Cakes: Silky golden cake topped with a ribbon of rich cheese and sprinkled with a sweet crumb topping.

My kids and I tried a few of the Sara Lee Snack Cakes to determine their favorite for school lunch.Personally, I like the Crumb cakes for a breakfast treat with my coffee. It was sweet without being cloying overdone. The crunchy topping made for a perfect contrast to buttery, soft cake.

The kids were all about chocolate. There was a dispute over the Devil's Food Creme Cakes and the Chocolate Creme Cupcakes. My youngest loved the cupcakes because he felt that there was more creme filling. My oldest enjoyed the devil's food because the chocolate encased the dense chocolate cake. They both agreed that either cake would be a great treat in their lunch boxes.

Sara Lee Snack Creme Filled Snack Cakes are sold in boxes of 8 individually wrapped cakes. The suggested retail price is $3.99. The Variety Snack Cakes are sold in boxes of 6 individually wrapped portioned for $3.99.

Don't let the back to school lunches be boring. Give the kids a perfectly portioned treat from Sara Lee Snack Cakes.
