Looking fabulous & feeling great - 7 Years Younger Review

When you look in the mirror, what do you see?  When you wake up in the morning, how do you feel?  If your answers are not extremely positive, would you want to change it. With an easy to follow set of tools, are you willing to make changes to look and feel seven years younger?  I would.

The book 7 Years Younger provides a set of guidelines to help you look and feel younger. While there is no fountain of youth or magic pill, you can make positive changes in your life to feel, look and act younger. Whether you commit to do one or all of the changes in the book, your life can see improvement. The bigger commitment to change will yield greater results.

I read this book over the past couple of weeks while I was working out (it's the only quiet time in my world). What I appreciated most about the concept is that the changes are easy to make. We're not talking cut all the fat, salt, or couch potato time off your daily lives. The suggestions are simple in nature but big on impact.

For example,  herbs and spices like, rosemary, sage, parsley, cinnamon and cumin are loaded with polyphenols that help you look younger so sprinkle them on your food liberally and often.  No one likes bland foods. Now that you know spices assist an youthful appearance are you more likely to add a dash of cinnamon to your morning oatmeal? One little change can start the ball rolling.

Personally, I focuses on Chapter 6 about making your brain better. As a former attorney, I used to be able to recite facts and memorize long lists at the drop of the hat. Since I've been removed from my previous occupation, my memory isn't as sharp. Who is to say why? But I've been following the suggestions like minimizing multitasking, which has helped me stay focused and on track. It was all about the little change.

Here are some additional tips from the book:
  • Take a few minutes each day to mentally savor the things you’re thankful for, and you’ll sleep better and longer each night (pg. 240)
  • Choose a hydrating or satin-finish liquid foundation, as hormone levels dip and your skin gets drier (pg. 70)
  • Shampoo less frequently to avoid hair dye color-fade. Refresh on your off days by spraying on a dry shampoo at the roots to soak up oil and restore volume (p. 108).
  • Just 30 minutes of active sweeping, dusting, and vacuuming burns 99 calories.
  • To switch your brain-power to high before a presentation or mentally challenging work, a quick verbal exchange with a friend can have the same benefits as mental exercises (pg. 216)
  • "The planes of the face shift and soften over the years, so a haircut needs to provide a balance between structure and softness," -New York City hairstylist Eva Scrivo. (page 109)
  • Take a few minutes each day to mentally savor the things you're thankful for, and you'll sleep better and longer each night (pg. 240)

I'm going to keep 7 Years Younger on my bookshelf as a great reference tool. From workout help to healthy recipes, there are many items that can be useful over time. Plus, all these suggestions and products have been tested and retested by the Good Housekeeping Research Institute, so you know that it is information that you can trust.
