Gogobot, adding adventure to my staycation - review

Before I had kids, I loved to travel. From a weekend getaway to an extended, exotic vacation, the idea of grabbing a suitcase and leaving it all behind appealed to me. Today, I still feel the urge to travel, but, with a family, it takes more planning and less spontaneity.

Using the Gogobot website, please create your dream (or real) vacation and tell us about where you would stay, eat, and the activities that you would do when you are there. The advice on Gogobot isn't from a travel writer who looks for the most popular or easily identifiable landmarks. These reviews are real travels that are looking for a sense of adventure, romance or family entertainment. If you are looking for that hole in the wall restaurant or the hidden gem of a store, the reviewers on Gogobot can offer a real, unfiltered opinion if you should visit.

Since a large scale, long distance family vacation doesn't happen often in our house (our kids' sports schedules dominate our lives), we often try a short weekend getaway to take a break from our hectic pace. Living close to Chicago, a night in the city of broad shoulders is fun for the kids and us. Before we set off, I checked out the GoGoBot Chicago website.

With kids, any hotel can be fun. From the little soaps to even a ride in an elevator can bring a smile to a child' face. As a parent, I want more. Personally, I want a centrally located hotel, a larger room that accommodates my whole family comfortably, and a reasonable price.

I started my search on GoGoBot for a hotel. Now I have a personal favorite hotel in Chicago (Hotel 71), but I wanted to see other reviewers thoughts and suggestions on where to stay. From trendy to quaint and upscale to economical, you can find a huge variety of options. Each review gives you an honest opinion about location, staff and most importantly the enjoyability of stay.

For our family, an important part of our time away is finding a good restaurant. From high end foodie spots to word of mouth favorites, our family is always looking for a special place to eat. On GoGoBot I was able to search by cuisine. From the fav pizza joint to the best hamburger around, based on the authentic comments, I know that I won't be disappointed in my meal.

Our next try in the city is DMK Burger. Personally, I love a good burger. Many of the reviews agree that DMK has the variety and the quality that I look for in an establishment. Plus, the diners' pictures make my mouth water.

With the hotel and restaurants covered, I wanted to make sure that the kids had a fun activity for the weekend. I was able to find lots of options. From Navy Pier to architectural cruises, numerous locations and activities offer the variety that I wanted. We settled on a trip to the Museum Campus where we could visit the Shedd Aquarium,  Adler Planetarium and Field Museum. My kids love dinosaurs and Sue at the Field Museum is a must see.
