It's ok not to be supermom, Don't Sweat the Small for Moms - review/giveaway

My life is busy. Some people may say hectic or overwhelming. To me, a day starting at 4:30 am and ending when I'm too tired to keep my eyes open is normal. Yes, I try to do it all. Make the lunches, take the kids to school, carpool to sports, workout, make dinner, the list is endless. In the end, I'm left with stress. I need to find some coping mechanisms. What I need to learn is don't sweat stuff.

Don't Sweat the Small Stuff for Moms is a book by Kristine Carlson. The book teaches women how to refocus their priorities and not to over think life. The book helps women by focusing on the following ideals:

  • Be a Mom, Not a Friend
  • Balance Being a Woman and a Mom
  • Pursue Your Passion, But Not at the Expense of Your Children
  • Reclaim Your Family Time
One specific topic really struck a cord with me. There is a discussion on remembering the little things matter. For example, you don't have to make an outrageous plan for a moment to become a lasting memory. Extraordinary items and memories can be found in the most ordinary everyday activities.

I try really hard to be a good mom. From museum trips to vacations, I want to give my kids all the wonderful experiences that I had growing up. What I've found is that sometimes the most mundane moments are etched into their memories better than the outlandish. For example, my kids talk about the times we first made cake pops or had squirt gun fights in the backyard. These simple activities didn't take weeks and months to plan. Rather, they were spontaneous. The most important part was that we all were present in the moment. We didn't think about why it was special. It just was. Now before I over plan and over spend, I think about easy ideas that might bring a smile to their faces (and a memory in my heart).

Don't Sweat the Small Stuff for Moms has various ideas and meditations that can add some simplicity to your life. Maybe you can take a few moments to yourself one morning and read the first chapter. Please visit the Don't Sweat Moms website to read the first chapter for free.

Maybe you just need a minute or two to settle your mind. You can find this book available in app form.  The Meditation that Adapts to You is a set of affirmations based on the principles in the Don't Sweat series of book.
