Growing up in private school, I experienced many traditions. From universal activities like graduation, to religious experiences, like first communion, each event created the person that I've become. I was fortunate to have a strong community guiding me through these experiences. Now, with my children, I look for additional guidance for these special events.

A Little Guide to First Communion  is an easy to understand book for kids who are beginning their religious journey. For many kids, they see the event of first communion as a party. They lose sight of the importance of the ritual itself and what it means to their faith.

What I like about this book is that there is a good balance between the fun and the educational. The little girl in this book is very concerned about her pretty dress and party, but she comes to understand that the sacrament is the primary reason for the serial days.

The end of the book explains the trading and rituals behind the sacrament of communion It is on a level that children can understand. It doesn't overwhelm them or talk down to them.
