Howard B. Wigglebottom is teaching my kids about sportsmanship review/giveaway

My kids play in a lot of sport activities. Whether it is individual sports or team sports, I want them to play their best. But I never want to see a temper tantrum.

Recently at one of my son's swim meets, I watched an inappropriate scene by a 8 year old boy. After finishing his race, the boy splashed, slammed the water, and basically threw a fit. Because of his actions, the next race was delayed. I thought two things. First, I was grateful that it wasn't my son and second, what was he thinking. I was appreciative that one of the meet officials came over and spoke to him about the poor choice of behavior.

When I had a moment to talk to my son, I referenced the situation that I saw. I told him that if I ever saw such poor behavior out of him, I would pull him from the meet, he would apologize to the coaches and we would go home. The lesson is clear. Winning isn't everything. Being a good sportsman is the only thing. Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns About Sportsmanship is clear in this message.

From the award winning Howard B. Wigglebottom series, the Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns About Sportsmanship explains to kids about the importance of good behavior in sports. Howard wants to win his soccer game. Unfortunately, he will do the wrong things to help his team win. Howard has to understand that it is better to lose and be a good player than to act badly.

One aspect to this book that I really appreciated was the parental issue. When parents yell and berate their children in sports it effects the kids in the play. Kids think that if my dad's actions are ok, then I can do the same thing. As parents, we need to lead by example.

Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns About Sportsmanship can be purchased online at wedolisten.org. There are several other Howard B. Wigglebottom books on important life lessons, like bullying and listening to adults.
