Unsung heroes, caregivers supported by Clorox CareConcepts

When illness hits a family, the struggle of doing what is easy and what is best for the family comes to the forefront. Deciding to care for an ill family member at home takes courage. The day in and day out struggle to put the needs of one ahead of others can be overwhelming. From financial struggles to finding patience in the moment, the caregivers can lose themselves in the care giving process. Clorox CareConcepts wants to bring caregivers the online support to help in their journey.

According to studies, approximately 1 in 5 Chicagoans are caregivers. Caregivers are part of the silent workforce. From caring for an adult family member to serving a child with special needs, 66 million people provide daily assistance to those who cannot take care of themselves.

Recently, Chicago caregivers came together to support each other and share their stories. The evening celebrated the unsung heroes that selflessly give themselves on a daily basis.

The evening was sponsored by Clorox CareConcepts, which provides personal home care products. With the development of the website, WhenCareComesHome.com, caregivers can find answers to questions, products to use and supportive tools to help with the daily struggle. The website offers educational content and links to parents such as FCA and CAN.

One of the high points of the evening was a screen of the Ernesto Quintero documentary, A Sacred Journey. This very personal story chronicles Quintero's brother who lives with ALS and their family who cares for him. The story balances the his brother's desire to fulfill the dream of seeing his mural come to life and the family's difficulties to care for an ill family member. While every audience member has a different take away from the story, one key to remember in any journey is that love can be the anchor in a sea of difficulties.

If your family is caring for a loved one or is considering caring for a loved one, consider visiting the website WhenCareComesHome.com for information and support.

  1. What a wonderful cause to be part of. These people are often passed over and not properly recognized for their efforts.

  2. What a great way to honor those who are often left unrecognized. I'm sure it is very taxing physically and emotionally to be a caregiver.
