Top rated doesn't mean that it's appropriate for you - my kids need a Kurio, #SweetSuite13

There are times when my parenting decisions may be made in haste not logic. While the notion of the ideal, well prepared mom is nice, it is totally unrealistic. There are days when a moment of silence is worth it's weight in gold. That is until I find out the repercussions for my lapse in judgment.

My youngest son is quite a talker. He is a smart kid who absorbs information like a sponge. While I will never begrudge his desire to learn more and more, I would like to reign in his subject matter. For example, what to bring to a NERF gun battle is not my choice of dinner time conversation.

When he proceeded to tell everyone about the shields, NERF launders and other gadgets that can help in a battle, I was having heart palpitations. When he took a pause, I was finally able to ask, why did you learn this list?  My hope that the discussion came from kids horsing around in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, he gained this information from a group of high rated YouTube videos that he watched off my iPad. (That moment of silence is coming back to bite me).

Yes, I let my kids go on my iPad. It is convenient. But I assumed that they would be playing the apps that I loaded. Granted, I didn't think that the multplication raps would be top choice, but Angry Birds and even Minecraft would be fine. Unfortunately, my son was thatching YouTube videos. I never thought about him venturing into this area. Now I'm wondering about other topics of conversation and what else he has been doing on the iPad or my iPhone.

Kurio understands that families often turn to electronic devices to help entertain. But, families could use some filters on the content available to kids. Kurio has a next-generation Wi-Fi enabled Android device that features the latest technology but can be customized for families.

With this device parents, kids and teens can email, safely surf the web, read e-books, take photos, record videos, watch movies, listen to music, play apps and more. Plus, the device allows for up to eight unique user profiles on a Kurio tablet (four on the Touch 4s). It is like having multiple devices without the cost.

Each device is preloaded with free family-friendly content. More importantly, the Kurio offers in-app web filtering. This option allows kids to safely surf the web or use apps without encountering inappropriate content.
Kurio Touch 4S retails for $99.99. Kurio 7" Family Tablet retails for $149.99. Kurio 10" Family Tablet retails for $249.99.It can be purchased at a variety of retailers including Toys R Us and Walmart.

Give the kids their own android device that you can monitor. The kids get the fun toy and you get piece of mind with the Kurio.

Disclosure: I wrote this post to enter a contest. I learned about the Kurio at #SweetSuite13.

  7. It is so sad that kids cannot go online without parents having to be worried about what they are seeing, it scares me too much to even consider what age I would let mine go online. At least devices like this are starting to put parental controls on them!

  8. I really like the sound of the Kurio tablet. I watch my kids closely when they get on my phone or iPad. I don't trust them on the web. There is just too much trash out there that can easily be stumbled upon by accident. And i don't want that for them. I love the family friendly nature of the Kurio.

  9. We definitely do a lot of monitoring when our kids are using electronics. Glad there's a way to monitor a bit easier.
