Back to school is full of promise, #PayItForward school supply event

When Back to School ads fill your mailbox, newspaper and inbox, kids can get excited about the prospect of a new year, new teachers and tons of possibilities. Unfortunately, the expense of all the school supplies can weigh on many families and teachers. To some families, the $25 in school supplies may not have an affect on their weekly budget. For others, this expense can have a large impact.

Personally, when I think about Back to School and school supply shopping, I think about the classroom teachers. In many cases, these women and men take money out of their own pockets to provide supplies for their classrooms. From extras pens and pencils to decorations around the room, a large sum of money can be spent to make that first day memorable.

For the past two years, I have been privileged to take part in the Pay It Forward Madame Deals Back to School event. Campus Book Rentals provides a group of 85 bloggers with $25 to purchase school supplies for families in need. This year, like the previous year, our family's decision has been to provide a backpack of school supplies to each of my children's classrooms.

Campus Book Rentals is a company that offers students up to 90% off their textbooks! It not only allows students to save money, it helps students make money by providing services for students to rent out their textbooks to other students. Campus Book Rentals has been around since 2007, and continues to help students live a more affordable life. Campus Book Rentals is proud to sponsor such an amazing pay it forward event!

In our school district, many teachers spend hundreds of dollars to provide items in the classrooms. Since all the kids pool their school supplies, the teachers make up the slack. On our meet the teacher day, each of my kids provides a second backpack full of supplies to his classroom. The complete list of items is below.

Last year the teachers were shocked with the bag of supplies. It was completely unexpected and greatly appreciated. From filling in gaps where families couldn't provide to supplementing worn out supplies, the items were put to good use.  In one class, the backpack became the field trip bag (the teacher didn't have anything to carry all the necessary items on the various field trips).

What will this year's bag of goodies bring?  Who knows.  But the smiles on the faces of both my kids and the teachers are worth their weight in gold.
