Getting the house ready for the holidays

With only about one week till Thanksgiving, my household chore list is longer than ever. Of course, I have the daily to do items like laundry, cooking, and carpool. These typical items do not disappear just because a holiday is near. In between doing these general tasks, I need to spruce up the house for our holiday guests. With about 16-20 friends and family coming for Thanksgiving, I need to get moving.

Over the years, I have found that certain to do items are just better left to professionals. For example, professional rug cleaning is much better than my results with an in-home unit.  Granted, the home carpet cleaners are great for little messes. A company is better suited to get the stairs, family room and dining room deep cleaned for the holidays.

It always amazes me how much dirt is stuck in carpets. Even with lots of vacuuming, there is dirt and grossness in the carpet. Once the carpets are cleaned, the house just seems fresher. No air deodorizer can create that freshness.

The other reason to hire a professional is that this service saves you time. By freeing several hours of cleaning time from your schedule, you can focus on the shopping, baking and prep work for the big turkey day. Maybe there could be a little extra time for some pampering like a manicure or pedicure to make you look and feel good while you are slaving away on the big day.

This holiday season think about where you can save time. Granted spending money may not always be the best answer, but weigh the pros and cons. Sometimes a little free time and piece of mind is worth the spending of a few dollars.
