Seating Arrangements, the drama behind the family wedding, review/giveaway

Do you ever wonder what goes on behind a wedding? Are the smiles and hugs big facades? Just maybe there is some juicy drama that would make even the most worldly person blush. Are you ready for a summer read that has substance over fluff?

The novel, Seating Arrangements by Maggie Shipstead weaves a delicate tale of a family in a state of change. Over the weekend wedding of his daughter, Winn Van Meter tests his social status, doubts his role as patriarch, and questions his personal history. With the chaos of wedding plannings looming in the background, all the parties involved in the react differently to the major changes in their lives.

The characters are the driving force behind this novel. Many of us understand the difficulties of a wedding weekend. Unfortunately, we don't often see the spats, hook-ups and tear-soaked nights that accompany that one blissful day.

Shipstead carefully weaves a tale of a family who is more concerned with outward appearances that personal relationships. From a father who desires club memberships more than his daughter's affection to a daughter who longs for a man to sweep her off her feet, this story has substance and depth. While the plot has women inspired topics, the well-written characters, with all their flaws, are the heart of the story.

If you are looking for a summer read that is engaging and character driven, turn to Seating Arrangements by Maggie Shipstead.
