Naper Settlement celebrates Civil War Days

If you are drawn to the history or the drama, Civil War Days at Naper Settlement offers it all. This weekend, May 19 and May 20,  Naper Settlement will become a stage for the Civil War. For over 30 years, re-enactors from and around Naperville join together to re-enact a pivotal time in our nation's history.

Each day from 10 am till 4 pm, guests can immerse themselves in the world of the Civil War. All the participants are committed to bringing the Civil War era to life. Many of the re-enactors have participated in this event for several years.

Larry Werline has portrayed General Ulysses S. Grant since 1997 and is part of a reenacting group said “what we try to do as historians is bring this time period to life. These aren’t just dry dates in the history books. It really happened and it affected everyone in the country dramatically."

At 2:30 pm on each day, the climatic battle re-enactment will take place. Visitors can see the Union Grey versus the Confederate South. The cannons will fire, the guns will be drawn and a victor will be named. After the battle, guests can watch the Civil War surgeons tend to the wounded.

In addition to the bloodshed of battle, the event offers lots of interaction with Civil War period personas. From Abraham Lincoln to army generals, guests can ask questions or just wave hi.
