We rose to the Flippin' Good Deeds Challenge

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote how our family was taking the Flippin' Good Deeds Challenge. Just a reminder, the Flippin' Good Deeds Challenge was call to our family, friends and neighbors to join together and donate shoes to Soles4Souls.

Every year we host Mattoberfest, a celebration for my son's birthday and a celebration of those named "Matt" (we have a lot of Matt's in our world). We asked everyone who came to the event to bring a gently used pair of shoes to donate to Soles4Souls. Our friends went above and beyond with their generosity.

In total we collected 163 pairs of shoes!

Together as a family, we boxed up all the donations. The boys and I put all the shoes in the van and drove them to the donation warehouse in Fox Lake, IL. We could have mailed them, but there were just  too many shoes.

What I like about this challenge is that we came together as a community to support a good cause. A simple act of cleaning out our closets of shoes that we no longer needed directly benefited a worth while cause.

We constantly work on the concept of charity and giving in our house. My boys are gaining an understanding that we are very fortunate and there are people in this world who need our help. This challenge helped them understand that we have a responsible to help others.

Your family can help Soles4Souls too! Look for a donation center in your area. Many shoes stores have donation boxes that will take gently used pairs of shoes. For a drop-off location near you, please visit http://www.soles4souls.org/about/locations.html.

Our family and friends rose to the Flippin' Good Deeds Challenge.  Will you?
