I'm ready to take the flippin good deeds challenge - are you?

I am very grateful for the life that I have. My family and I have our health, a nice home and a happy family life. Since we are very blessed, I feel that is important to give back. Whether an opportunity presents itself or we create the opportunity, the willingness to serve is very important to me and my family. So we are ready for the flippin' good deeds challenge.

What's the flippin' good deeds challenge? I'm joining with other bloggers nationwide to start a donation drive. We are participating in a shoe drive for Soles 4 Souls.

What is Soles 4 Souls? The mission of Soles 4 Souls is to collect new shoes to give relief to the victims of abject suffering and collects used shoes to support micro-business efforts to eradicate poverty. Based in Nashville, Sole 4 Souls has given away 14 million pairs of new and gently worn shoes, basically  donating one pair every 7 seconds. All the shoe donations are provided where-ever needed worldwide.

Years ago I had the opportunity to study and live in Paraguay. As part of my education, I visited an orphanage. Even my inexperienced, younger self was shocked to see the many children without shoes. While these adorable boys and girls were happy beyond belief, they needed the basics, like shoes. While I was there, my fellow classmates and I gave many items to the facilitate and children. This experience stayed with me and reminds me to teach my children the importance to give back.

Our family will be hosting a shoe drive during our annual Mattoberfest party at the end of September. This celebration is combines my husband's German heritage and my oldest son's birthday. Basically it's a great way to bring all our family and friends together to celebrate.

This year we are asking our guests to bring one pair of new or gently worn shoes. Since many of our friends and family have small children, we all know how quickly kids grow out of shoes. Our party will be a celebration and an opportunity to give back for all that we have been given.

Our family has accepted the challenge. Would you be willing to join the cause? Please visit http://www.soles4souls.org/flippingooddeeds to start your shoe drive or email me  (more4momsbuck(at)gmail.com) and you can join ours.
