Brookfield Zoo presents FREEze Day February 20

Many kids will be off this President’s Day weekend. Why not take them to Brookfield Zoo?

Sunday, February 20 is FREEze Day. This Sunday is free admission to the zoo and lots of cold weather related events.
In addition to all the wonderful exhibits at Brookfield Zoo, FREEze day will have several special events throughout the day. These events include:
Green Valley Dog Drivers (GVDD) and their dog companions will demonstrate dog-sledding from 10 am till 4 pm. This demonstration will be held at the West Mall. This organization is based in Lemont. Team members will talk about mushing with their canines and have guests participate in dog-sledding games.
Free Spirit Siberian Rescue, whose purpose is to find home for abandoned Siberian huskies in Illinois, will be available to answer questions about Siberian huskies. Representatives will also answer questions and talk about the benefits of adopting a Siberian husky.
Of course the day would not be complete without some performances. Raven, a Native American flutist, and Quentin Young, a Lakota storyteller will be performing in the Great Bear Wilderness. These performers will share stories about winter-hardy animals and bison.
If you are still fighting the chill, REI will have a ton of winter weather gear available.
Brookfield Zoo is open the following hours: Monday-Sunday: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., All indoor exhibits close one half hour before the zoo closes.
Brookfield Zoo is located at 8401 31st St., Brookfield, IL 60513.
