Adler Planetarium, Field Museum, Science and Industry Museum free admission days

It can be expensive to take the family to the Field Museum, Museum of Science and Industry and Adler Planetarium. Just admission to the museum, without all the extras can be over $100.
Luckily, Chicago area museums offer several days where general admission is free. Special exhibits are not included in the free admission. But when you save on the general admission price, you'll have some extra dollars for the special exhibits.
Below is a list of some Chicago museums that offer free admission days. Please check with the museum prior to visiting for any new restrictions or changes.

Adler Planetarium:

•  Free Days:

• o    January: 4, 5, 10-14, 18, 19, 24-27
• o    February: 1, 2, 7-10, 15, 16, 22, 23, 28
• o    March: 1-3, 8, 9, 15, 16

• Free days include admission to the museum, but do not include admission to the Planetarium show.
• Additional shows can be purchased for each theater show: $7, Historic Atwood Sphere Experience: $3, Special Guided Tour: $3
• Open daily 10: 00 am –4:00 pm on weekdays and 10:00 am – 4:30 pm on weekends.

Museum of Science and Industry:

• Free Days:

• o    January: 3–7, 10–14, 17–21, 24–28, 31
• o    February: 1, 8, 14, 15, 22
• o    June: 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 9
• o    September: 6–9, 12 –16, 19–23, 26–30
• o    October: 31

• Free days admission does not include the Omnimax Theatre, U-505 Submarine or any special exhibits.
• On free days, admission to the Omnimax Theatre is discounted to $8 for adults, $7 for seniors and $6 for children.  All other exhibits are regular price.
• The museum is open Mon–Sat 9:30am – 4pm.

Field Museum

•  Free Days:

• o    January: 3, 10, 11, 13, 18, 19, 24, 26, 31
• o    February: 2, 3, 8, 9, 14, 15, 17
• o    March: 14

• Free days include basic admission to the museum.
• All special exhibits must be purchased at an additional cost
• Hours are 9am to 5 pm, with the last admission at 4 pm
• Location: 1400 S. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, IL 60605-2496

Just a reminder, parking is not free during these discount days. Parking in nearby lots may cost around $20 or more. Public transportation to the museums is available. Check with the museum and/or CTA for the best route.
