We're in the middle of summer and summer festivals are in full swing.
June 22 through June 27, Geneva, Illinois will celebrate its annual Swedish Days Festival, Midsommar Festival.
This six day festival offers something special for everyone in the family. Whether you want to try some Swedish food, watch a parade, take a spin on a carnival ride or learn more about green living, there is an event for you. Even the merchants around downtown Geneva will have special offerings throughout the festival.
The majority of Swedish Days events take place on South Third Street, just south of State Street (Route 38) in downtown Geneva. Admission to the festival is free unless otherwise noted.
With so many events during the celebration, here are a few highlights for the week.
Kids' Day - June 25
* Kids' Day Parade 12:30 pm
* Dodge Ball tournament throughout the day
* Firehouse challenge 1:30 pm
Carnival Rides:
* Unlimited ride passes are $20 from noon till 4 pm
Concerts on the Central Stage:
* Tuesday 8 pm: Liverpool, a tribute to the Beatles
* Wednesday 8 pm: Mike & Joe, an alternative and modern rock music from the 90s through the present
* Thursday 8 pm: Libido Stage, a human jukebox performs a variety of music
* Friday 8 pm: R-Gang, R&B band playing music from Motown to today.
* Saturday 8 pm: The Runaway, a seven-piece band playing music from the 50s and 60s.
Food Specials:
* Geneva Lutheran Church will offer a Swedish Pancake breakfast on Saturday, June 26 from 8 am till noon, or until all the food is gone. Cost is $6 an adult and $4 for children 12 and under.
* American Legion Post 75 will offer a all-you-can eat breakfast on Sunday, June 27 from 7 till 11 am. Cost is $10 an adult and $5 for children 12 and under.
* Any military personnel in uniform will receive a free meal at select booths on Sunday, June 27
* Beer gardens will be available throughout the festival area.
* Various local Geneva restaurants will offer dining special throughout the event.
* Through the festival area, several concession booths will serve a variety of food items.
Swedish history and culture:
* Good Templar Park will offer a variety of traditional Swedish activities.
* Viking Ship presentations will give insight on the replica of Gokstad Ship.
* Admission to the presentation is $5 for adults, free to children 12 and younger as well as anyone who is in a traditional Scandinavian costume.
* Admission includes a worship service, a Viking Ship presentation, the Maypole dancing and musical entertainment.
