More on Mondays, a weekly list of family events in Naperville

Last week I published the first, of hopefully many, More on Monday articles. This weekly feature will sample some upcoming local family events for the week ahead. The focus will be on cost effective family events.

Here's this week, August 24 through August 30 2009, list of events in and around Naperville.

Dupage Children's Museum is offering this week, What's my line math discovery. It is a drop in program that explores math, science and art in various learning paths. Some of the sessions will provide a project that the children can take home. Each month a different theme will be offered. This program is included with museum admission.

Tuesday, August 25 Story Time at Fullersburg Wood. This event is presented by the Dupage Forest Preserve. Participants 6 and under with an adult will explore insects, birds and other surprises during the guided hike. After the hike there will be stories and songs. The event will run from 10 am until 11 am.

Tuesday August 25 Millennium Carillon Summer Recital Series presents a free concert on the lawns surrounding the tower. Families are encouraged to bring picnics and other snacks. These concert will be held rain or shine (unless there is lightning). These concerts showcase local and national carillonneurs in this concert series.

Friday, August 28 Plainfield music in the plaza is having multiple concerts and a late movie on Friday. The concert and movie will be held at Union County Building in the outdoor area. The event is located between East Front Street and Park Avenue. There will be two concerts during the day. One at 12-2 p.m. and the another from 6-8 p.m. The music performer will be Gospel/Cheree House and Manhattan Music Band Breeze. There is also a car show and a movie later in the evening at 9:30 p.m. The movie will be Fast and the Furious. More information at please call (908)753-3097.

Saturday, August 29 Bolingbrook is celebrating Summer's Last Blast. This festival is located at the Bolingbrook Recretion and Aquatic Center by Pelican Harbor. This event has activities all day long including a petting zoo, climbing walls, inflatables, and much more. Later in the evening, there will be a concert and fireworks at dusk. Saturday, August 29 Naperville Park District is offering family rock climbing night at Vertical Endeavors. All participants must register with the Naperville Park District by Thursday, August 27. Any participants, who are 5 years old or older, must be accompanied by by adult or guardian. The cost for the event is $22 for residents and $33 for nonresidents. All participants must sign a release waiver to participate.
