Playmaker Playdate, get outdoors and get creative #ClaritinMomCrew

Sparking children's creativity can be a tremendous opportunity. When a child taps into his creativity, his mind becomes engaged to the world around him. From seeing the fun in nature to enjoying being a kid, the spontaneity of a child in the outdoors is limitless.

To whisk away the potential kid boredom factor, parents can create a day of outdoor creative play day. A few simple activities can turn a driveway into a canvas, a backyard into an obstacle course and an afternoon into lasting memories.

As a mom of boys, my kids are obsessed with the summer programming of American Ninja Warrior. These trained athletes can jump, lift and climb their way to athletic greatness. While my kids aren't quite ready to climb the warped wall, we can create an obstacle course in our backyard for the neighborhood. With a few items from the garage, all the neighborhood kids can get moving and challenge themselves for the afternoon.

To create a backyard obstacle course, consider a few items like boxes, cones, balls, etc. Since we have a lot of boxes in our house, a minefield of boxes was simple. The kids had to jump from one (filled) box to another while keeping their balance. If you couldn't fill the boxes, use them in a zig-zag pattern for a dash. Another fun task is tug of war. Take some jump ropes (or long rope if you have it) and see which team has muscle prowess. A bucket of water in the middle (or a kiddie pool if you have one) makes for a fun surprise for the losing side. Basically, the kids can come up with any variety of activities that keep them up and active.

When it comes to being outside, seasonal allergies can dissipate the fun quickly. The sneezing and running nose can bring the running and jumping to a stop. In our house, we keep some Children's Claritin in the medicine cabinet. The convenient dissolve tabs help put away the tissues and continue with the outdoor fun. For our family, outdoor allergens are defeated and we are ready to conquer the next obstacle battle.
