At least once a week, my family orders pizza. One week the kids will get to decide and the next week I get to weigh in. Kids are easy when it comes to pizza. A simple traditional crust with pepperoni or sausage will make them smile. Personally, I like my pizza to have a little more personality. I want veggies, lots of veggies, a deep dish crust and some spicy meat.
Since we live in the Chicago area, there are many great local restaurants and pizzerias around us. Sometimes these independent restaurants offers a few off-the-wall or non-traditional options Of course, Chicago is know for deep dish pizza and many of our local favorites offer outstanding options. With so many choices, we can eat a different location for months.
Here are some facts about pizza orders.
- According to diners, 81% prefer independently owned restaurants versus popular pizza chains. Here are some other key facts that might surprise you:
- A majority of pizza eaters also seek deals or coupons for their purchase at least some of the time when ordering pizza.
- Rather than choose delivery, 37.5 percent of diners said they dine out for pizza because of its convenience (accessibility, timeliness).
- Chicago Style Deep Dish was one of the least preferred crusts (8.5 percent) among those surveyed. Thin and crunchy was the most popular crust among respondents in our survey (39.9 percent) followed by hand-tossed, New York Style crust (38.9 percent).
