2013 the year of organization

When I get busy, I let items slide. From the extra papers on the island to the pile of "to do" items in the dining room, there is too much stuff. I need to make a commitment be better organized, have less clutter and streamline our household.

Here are some tips that I will be using to put my family and I on the right track.

Find the right storage solutions:
There are tons of storage options available. Make sure that the solution is optimum for your space. Racor storage solutions can plan out your space online before you purchase.

Purge a day at a time:
Multiple piles of paper, books or just about anything can become overwhelming. If you commit to getting rid of a few items a day, you can tackle a large task. For example, don't let catalogues, fliers or other unimportant mail pile up on your desk. Throw the items away immediately and you can eliminate clutter.

Commit to donating unused items.
When you look into the closet, do you have many unworn clothes or the wrong size clothes? Make a commitment to give those clothes to charity. I have two ways of determining which items are donated. For kids clothes, I keep a bag by their laundry hamper. When I see that the clothes don't fit, I put them in the bag. One wash and it is ready to donate. The other option is to rotate hangers. After you were an item you change how the hanger is hung in your closet. After a month if the piece of clothing isn't worn, it goes to charity.

Don't buy it if you don't need it
Why bring extra clutter into your house? Of course, many of us love a good deal, but is having the extra items in your house worth it? Besides spending money, you might be purchasing items that could go unused. Best advice is to think twice before you buy.

  1. I have committed to doing something small everyday in more than just the house. Example- 30 minutes each day to get some uninterrupted email time in. That is HUGE in my clutter problem!

  3. These are great tips. We have a lot of spring cleaning ahead of us and I'll be sure to refer back to this. Especially the one day at a time advice. I can't even imagine how long it will take to clean our garage!

  5. I need to start putting things back where they belong as soon as I'm done using them. That's my biggest problem when it comes to organization :/

  6. We donate a lot of items that we just don't use anymore, clothing toys and household items - all go if they have not been touched in a year.

  7. One room at a time, take everything out - even out of the drawers and closets. Deep clean the whole room and only put back in what I really NEED. Master Bedroom is the only one done so far.
