Elfishki and The Giant Cake, interactive book, getting my kids to read more - review

I hope to inspire a love reading for my children. While my nose is in a book or an ereader constantly, I am working on my children to read frequently. Since our summer is spent constantly on the go, carryon lots of hard copy books can be cumbersome. I've been using my IPad as an ereader for the kids. The key to keeping them reading is finding books that they enjoy.

Recently I received the interactive book Elfishki and The Giant Cake. I am a big fan of this book. The story is enjoyable for boys and girls. It combines pirates, ghosts and fairies. These unlikely neighbors come together to create an amazing cake to celebrate the town.The message of this book is simple, everyone can work together and get along.

My favorite part of this eBook is that there are questions to answer on each page. My oldest child struggles with reading comprehension. By having him answer questions about the story throughout the book, he can better understand what happens. Also, some of the questions are broader than just plot related. These questions help kids relate story lines to their lives.

My kids favorite part of this eBook is that the story has animated parts. From ghosts that fly to fairies that bake, each page has movement. These little fun aspects keep the kids engaged in the story.

Elfishki and The Giant Cake can be read by kids or read to kids. Also there are additional features like interactive cake decorating, songs and more.
