Novica, decorating my home with unique style and helping world artists, review

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Mom Blog Society. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

I love trying to decorate my house. But I don't want items that come directly from a big box store. There's no reason to have the exact same items that a neighbor down the street. I want to be different but at the same time express my personal style.

A great company that I started using is Novica.  In conjunction with National Geographic, Novica gives "artists and artisans around the world a global platform to express their true artistic talents and spur their creativity." This internet based company provides a bridge between the customer and global artists.

Novica has a wide selection of home decor, paintings, jewelry and apparel. Each category has a wide range of prize points as well as origins. Each piece comes with a card that explains the artist's creation. Also, each artist sends a handwritten thank you card with their work of art.

Since I am building a new shelving unit, I picked two decorative items to include on the new shelves.

The first item I chose was Blown glass vase, 'Carnival' by Cantel Blown Glass Artisans (Central America). From the Guatemala artists, the colors are to evoke confetti and streamers in party colors. What I liked about this piece is the variety of colors without being too overpowering. It allows me to combine this small scale vase with other pieces on the unit.

The second piece that I chose is Jade obelisk, 'Prosperity' (large) by Cesar Gonzales (Andes). According to the artist, jade is believed to attract wealth and prosperity. I really like the changes in the color graduation. The obelisk is carefully polished to create an elegant color. It works well with books on the shelf and other picture frames that we display.

Novica offers a wide variety of pieces that would make great gifts for Mother's Day, Father's Day or graduation gifts. These unique items will stand out in a crowd. More importantly, your patronage will help other artisans fulfill their artistic dreams.
