Discovery Girls Magazine, real life guidance for tweens, review/giveaway

Growing up as a tween girl in today's society can be difficult. With the images on television or in magazines, the standards that younger girls feel that they need to emulate is astounding. Trying to find materials and role models that enhance a young girl's self-esteem and empower their sense of self is paramount. One such media outlet that empowers young girls is Discovery Girls. 


Discovery Girls is a national magazine that targets girls between the ages of 8 and 13. The mission of the magazine is "to inspire and encourage girls to be more confident and resilient and help them deal with those difficult situations that all girls run into growing up."  The magazine, as well as it's book publications, provide thoughtful advice and wholesome contest on a variety of tween related issues including peer pressure, appearance and career choices.


What makes Discovery Girls different from other magazines is that a large portion of its content comes from the girls who read the magazines. Readers are encouraged to answer polls, submit questions and even share an embarrassing moment (or two) with the magazine. By using real life situations, other readers are encouraged to see that they are not alone. Other girls, just like them, are experiencing the same life situations and are surviving them.

Also, the cover girls of Discovery Girls Magazine are real girls. During the year, twelve girls from various states appear as cover models. These aren't impossible to imitate celebrities; rather they are every day girls that you could see walking down the halls of your school.

In addition to Discovery Girls Magazine, there are a series of books called Fab Girls. These books tackle many of the questions and problems that many tween face today. The Fab Girls Guides include Friendship Hardship, Sticky Situations, Getting Through Tough Times, and Getting Your Questions Answered.
