I'm sure that you think that I wrote the title wrong, Home Run Inn Pizza on a grill. Home Run Inn, Chicago’s Premium Thin-Crust Pizza, is encouraging families to ditch the oven and try the grill this summer.
No matter your family's pizza preference, Home Run Inn offers several frozen pizza varieties including Classic,” “Signature,” and “Ultra Thin” varieties.
Home Run Inn Pizza offers a few suggestions for new grilled pizza options. Start with a basic Home Run Inn pizza and customize it with some of the following options.
- BBQ Beef Brisket, an Ultra Thin Cheese topped with thinly-sliced beef and smoked Gouda;
- Brats & Kraut, starting with a Classic Cheese;
- Muffaletta (New Orleans Style), a Classic Sausage Pepperoni topped with green and black olives, pepperoncini and chopped roasted red peppers;
- Surfs Up, a Classic Cheese topped with fresh shrimp and crabmeat; and
- Chicken Kabob, a Classic Cheese topped with shredded chicken, spinach leaves, tomatoes, peppers and kalamata olives, served with a cucumber, yogurt sauce…to name just a few.
So how do you cook a pizza on your grill? Home Run Inn Executive Chef Jeff Hursh suggests the following techniques.
Gas Grill Instructions
o Preheat to medium direct heat (400 °F) and place the frozen pizza directly on the center of the grill.
o Ultra Thin Pizzas: With all burners on, cook pizza with lid closed for 6-8 minutes. Rotate pizza halfway and cook 6-8 additional minutes with lid closed.
o Classic & Signature Pizzas: Set the two outside burners on medium or medium-high heat and the middle burner turned to off or low heat.
Cook pizza with lid closed for 12- 15 minutes. Rotate pizza halfway and cook with lid closed for a final 12-15 minutes.
Charcoal Grill Instructions
o Place 25-30 briquettes on the outside of the grill to create indirect heat. Place the frozen pizza directly on the center of the grill. (Don’t place your pizza directly
above briquettes—it will burn!)
o Ultra Thin Pizzas: Cook with lid closed for 6-8 minutes. Rotate pizza halfway and cook with lid closed for a final 6-8 minutes.
o Classic & Signature Pizzas: Cook pizza with lid closed for 12-15 minutes. Rotate pizza halfway, and cook with lid closed for a final 12-15 minutes.
So bring together family and friends for a pizza night by the grill and outside under the stars. It could be the best part of your summer.
