It’s finally feeling like Spring in the Chicago area. So why not take the family to Brookfield Zoo this weekend for an ape awareness event.
This Saturday and Sunday, April 9 and 10, Brookfield Zoo will host an ape awareness weekend. Throughout the two day event, Brookfield Zoo will have special zoo chats and ape related activities to promote ape conservation.
The special ape zoo chats on both Saturday and Sunday will be:
- 12:00 p.m. Gibbon Zoo Chat in Asia
- 1:00 p.m. Orangutan Zoo Chat in Asia
- 2:00 p.m. Monkey Zoo Chat in South America
- 2:30 p.m. Gorilla Zoo Chat in Africa
While visiting Brookfield Zoo, your family can help save gorillas by recycling an old cell phone. Coltan is a mineral that is commonly used in cell phones. The mining of this mineral threatens gorillas and other forest species in the Democratic Republic of Congo. By recycling old cell phones, manufacturers can become less dependent on coltan mining.
Brookfield Zoo is currently accepting old cell phones and their accessories, pages, handheld games, e-readers, and lap tops. Recycling stations are located at the North and South Gates.
Brookfield Zoo is open the following hours: Monday-Sunday: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., All indoor exhibits close one half hour before the zoo closes.
Brookfield Zoo is located at 8401 31st St., Brookfield, IL 60513.
Admission for Brookfield Zoo is Adults $13.50, Seniors 65 and Over $9.50, Children 3 to 11 $9.50, and Members are FREE. Parking is $9.00 and member parking is free.
