Roman Town, you become the archaeologist

Getting my kids interested in history and culture can be a challenge. But combine learning with a video game, my kids are instantly interested. That’s what Roman Town does.

Roman Town is an interactive, educational game that targets 5th to 8 graders and can be played by adults too. The game serves as a tool to teach kids about Roman culture, society and history. Its approach is to teach through discovery, analysis, and problem solving.

Our house was given the opportunity to have a Roman Town party from MommyParties. When planning our gathering, I knew that I needed to include my nephews who are Boy Scouts. Roman Town would be perfect to help with their archaeology badge. We invited our friends over to experience Roman Town and have a little fun.

After a few snacks and beverages, the kids instantly got into the game. We thought that the software was very user-friendly. Also, kids were learning. There was no mindless activity here. The kids had to think and respond to the games.

We talked about using the game to help with the Boy Scout archaeology badge. Roman Town helps to explain site excavation, artifact identification and examination. This information is helpful to obtaining the Boy Scout archaeology badge. We thought that it was a good start for the boys to get interested in the subject. An educational video game is a great way to make learning fun.

For my boys, I thought Roman Town was a great way to introduce them to archaeology. I intend to use the game before our next trip to the Field Museum. By having some understanding of the subject, we can make better use of our time at the museum.

Roman Town has been named a winner of the National Parenting Center’s 2010 Seal of Approval.

It can be purchased on-line, at dig-itgames.com for $24.95.
