We all know how important it is to support and nurture our children. One organization that promotes this cause is Attachment Parenting International (API). Naperville has its own chapter of Attachment Parenting International.
Attachment Parenting's mission is to "educate and support all parents in raising secure, joyful and empathic children in order to strength families and create a more compassionate world." These goals are simple and key to the parenting journey. By raising children with these core values, we are creating a better society.
October is Attachment Parenting month. API and the Sears family are joining together to promote Attachment Parenting during the month of October. The theme for 2010 is Full of Love: Parenting to meet the emotional and physical needs of children. The special focus this year is preventing childhood obesity.
Naperville API holds monthly support group meetings. These gatherings are for parents, grandparents and caregivers. The meetings focus on learning more about the program as well as providing support for general parenting struggles. The group understands that every family has an unique dynamic. Their goal is to find the activities that work for each individual family. Parenting is not a cookie-cutter endeavor, rather is a customized plan focusing on individual needs and wants. When a family finds their parenting voice on their on-going journey, everyone benefits from the outcome.
Naperville API holds monthly meetings on the last Friday of the month. The meetings are at Comfy Bummy in downtown Naperville at 9:45 am. Additionally there are evening meetings at 6 pm at Essential Family Chiropractic, located in the River Run Center. These monthly meetings are open to everyone who is interested in learning more about the Attachment Parenting program. All meetings are free.
