Luckily, Chicago area museums offer several days where general admission is free. Special exhibits are not included in the free admission. But when you save on the general admission price, you'll have some extra dollars for the special exhibits.
Below is a list of some Chicago museums that offer free admission days. Please check with the museum prior to visiting for any new restrictions or changes.
Adler Planetarium:
- Free days June 7-11
- Free days include admission to the museum, but do not include admission to the Planetarium show.
- Additional shows can be purchased for each theater show: $7, Historic Atwood Sphere Experience: $3, Special Guided Tour: $3
- Open daily 9:30am–6pm during the summer
- Free days June 14-18
- Free days include admission to Includes the Waters of the World, Amazon Rising, and the Caribbean Reef.
- Entry to the Packages including Wild Reef, Polar Play Zone and Oceanarium are available at a discounted rate.
- Open daily 9am–6pm during summer
- Free days June 7-11
- Free days admission does not include the Omnimax Theatre, U-505 Submarine or any special exhibits.
- On free days, admission to the Omnimax Theatre is discounted to $8 for adults, $7 for seniors and $6 for children. All other exhibits are regular price.
- The museum is open Mon–Sat 9:30am – 4pm and Sunday 11am – 4pm.
- Every second Tuesday of the month general admission is free. For the summer, the free days are June 14, July 12, August 9 and 24
- Free days include basic admission to the museum.
- All special exhibits must be purchased at an additional cost
- Hours are 9am to 5 pm, with the last admission at 4 pm
