Talk Like Shakespeare Day is a way to celebrate the Bard, William Shakespeare. April 23 2010 would have been Shakespeare's 445th birthday. Whether you have recently read a sonnet or have forgotten the couplet, today is a fun way to remember all that Shakespeare has contributed to the English language.
Here are some fun ideas to introduce your children to the ways of the Bard:
- When talking today try using some of Shakespeare's terms. For example, Instead of you, say thou or thee.
- Take the kids to the library and check out one of Shakespeare's plays. If you have little ones, there have been adaptations of Shakespeare's works. Visit, http://www.nosweatshakespeare.com/shakespeare-for-kids.htm for a list of adaptations.
- For the kids who love music, try Shakespeare is Hip - Hop. There are numerous songs from Shakespeare's well known plays.
- Watch the BBC series Shakespeare the Animated Tales, which can familiarize children to the classic plot lines from Shakespeare's works.
- Tonight for dinner make some The Winter's Tale Shepard's Pie or Yorkshire Pudding.
- Rent a Shakespeare movie for family movie night. Some ideas are Romeo + Juliet, Shakespeare in Love, or even The Lion King (which is based on Hamlet).
