Last Minute Valentine's Day Celebrations

It's the final countdown to Valentine's Day. With just one day left to the day of love and romance, sweethearts may be stumbling to find a way to mark the day.

Valentine's Day celebrations don't have to be elaborate or expensive. A simple gesture, an expression of gratitude or a symbol of love can mark the day with profound joy. Here are a few ways to make this Valentine's Day special.

1. Valentine's Day Breakfast: While breakfast in bed may be difficult on a work or school day, Valentine's Day breakfast can be the perfect start to the day. Color the breakfast with some red treats. A bowl of strawberries, maybe with a drizzle of chocolate, brings the color of love to the day's start. Or, a waffle with a red fruit drizzle can add a spark of romance. Basically, showing your loved ones that you care about the start of the day, is a great way to kick off the Valentine's Day celebrations.

2. Sneak the kids a lunch surprise: Make sure to add a little treat to the kids' lunch boxes. Maybe the class will share Valentines, but most kids would love a treat from mom in their lunch. A piece of candy or maybe a homemade brownie can bring a smile to their day.

3. Do something unexpected: Flowers, candy and jewelry can be popular Valentine's Day gifts. But, what about a gift that's out of the box. Maybe give your loved one a special experience for Valentine's Day. A cooking class for the foodie, a helicopter ride, or even a surfing lesson could show that you pay attention to what he/she likes.

4. Create your own card: By now, the Hallmark aisle can be picked over. What about making your own Valentine's Day card. You don't have to be an artist or a poet. A simple few words from the heart or a drawing from the kids can bring any person to an emotional wreck (in a good way).

If you celebration Valentine's Day, don't stress about the stuff. Celebrate with those you love and the experience will always be a memorable one filled with love.

  7. The little things are way more exciting then extravagant gifts. A thoughtful card or heartfelt note mean so much. Although a little sweet treat is always nice too!

  8. I made my kids heart shaped pancakes this morning with a few little notes of reasons why we love them. It was simple and they felt loved this morning before they went to school. My husband and I celebrate Valentines day the weekend close to the holiday with a date night. It is really the simple things that mean the most!
